Infer decay while preserving background and unused records
Independent unstable nuclei have a statistical survival law. An exponential expectation does not specify which individual nucleus decays next or promise that an actual sample contains exactly half its nuclei after one half-life. Activity is λN in decays per time, whereas a detector rate additionally depends on efficiency, branching and geometry. The synthetic source contribution here begins at 640 counts/min; that rate alone does not specify an initial number of nuclei.
Learning outcome: Fit first three expectation records without reading the hidden half-life or baseline, then freeze the12 min prediction. Compare a raw-ratio estimate with the difference method. State what independent efficiency or source-composition evidence would be needed to infer activity or age.

For T=4 min and B=20 counts/min, indications at 0,4,8 min are660,340,180 counts/min. Difference ratio160/320=.5 recoversT4 andB20. The unused12 min prediction is100 counts/min, made of80 source plus20 background.

Infer a decay constant without fitting background as activity
Worked teaching model · synthetic values · Synthetic expectation R(t)=640*2^(−t/T)+B counts/min. First three records at 0,4,8 min identify one exponential and constant background; 12 min is fresh validation. These are expectation rates, not literal exact random counts or a specified initial nucleus population. Detector efficiency is not inferred.
Reset keeps your prediction, captures and practice history.
A background-aware fit and unused time record
Unlike graph quantities rescale independently; read units and values, not screen angles. 1: fit from first three expectation rates (solid).2: fresh 12 min expectation record (filled markers).3: inferred constant background (dotted). Joined curves show the supplied model, not additional observations.

A constant background cancels in successive differences, not in raw-rate ratios.
For equally spaced expectation rates R0=S+B,R1=Sr+B,R2=Sr²+B, the difference ratio (R1−R2)/(R0−R1) equals r. Infer T=−delta t ln2/ln r, then B=(R1−rR0)/(1−r). The fourth rate is unused validation. This algebra is ill-conditioned when differences are small relative to real noise; real counting data need uncertainty and may not fit one exponential. Activity lambda N is decays per time, whereas recorded counts also depend on efficiency, branching and geometry; 640 counts/min does not specify N.
Predict before inspecting the values. Save contrasting records with assumptions and one alternative explanation. This virtual display does not certify practical measurement technique.

Save a science backup or import one
Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.
A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.
Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.
Complete file sets and course backups
A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.
The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.
0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.
