Retain information in nondetects without fabricating values
A reported nondetect does not establish that a substance is absent. It means the measurement did not quantify a value above a specified reporting limit under the method used. The limit and detection/quantification convention must be retained with the observation rather than replacing every censored result with an exact invented number.
Learning outcome: Compare two low limits with two high limits while leaving quantified observations unchanged. Report the interval and explain why a changing substitution mean does not demonstrate a physical concentration trend.
Starting recap
Retain observation history, units, temporal coverage and model assumptions; distinguish a conditional reconstruction from detected or attributed environmental change.
All lessons are open directly. Your saved experiments remain when you leave and return.

With limits 2 and 4, the sample mean lies from 2.4 inclusive to 3.6 exclusive µg/L. Half-limit substitution gives 3.0, but that is a chosen assumption rather than five measured concentrations.

Keep nondetects as intervals rather than invented observations
Worked teaching model · synthetic values · Five original nonnegative concentration values: quantified 2,4,6µg/L and two reported below separate limits. Treat censored values as[0,limit), not zeros or known half-limit values. Bounds concern this finite sample mean, not a population confidence interval.
Reset keeps your prediction, captures and practice history.
| Quantity | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Sum of quantified observations | 12 | µg/L summed over records |
| Lowest possible finite-sample mean | 2.4 | µg/L |
| Upper supremum of finite-sample mean | 3.6 | µg/L |
| Mean after arbitrary half-limit substitution | 3 | µg/L |
| Fraction of observations censored | 0.4 | fraction |
A reporting limit is information about an interval, not a measured concentration.
The upper endpoint is a supremum because each nondetect is strictly below its limit. Half-limit substitution is merely one assumption inside the interval; it is not an unbiased estimate guaranteed by censoring. These are arithmetic bounds, not confidence limits.
Predict, change one control, and save contrasting captures. Reconstruct the balance with units; then explain a process the ledger deliberately leaves out. Display precision is not measurement precision.

Captures preserve recipes and replay their calculated results. They are synthetic model evidence, not physical measurements.

Public practice checks a specific claim. It does not establish independent mastery.
With limits 1 and 5, calculate the mean bounds and half-limit result. Is the result a population confidence interval?

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.
Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.
Save a science backup or import one
Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.
A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.
Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.
Complete file sets and course backups
A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.
The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.
0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.
Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
