Transform an event pair and preserve its causal class

An event specifies a place and a time; two events need not be successive positions of the same object. Begin by naming the event pair before assigning a speed, duration or length. The original coordinates use c=1: one reference length equals the distance light travels in one reference time. This is a unit convention, not a claim that meters and seconds are interchangeable.

Learning outcome: Transform all three supplied pairs, independently reconstruct the invariant and inverse transformation, and separate causal classification from an unsupported particle-velocity interpretation.

Starting recap

Name event pairs, frame signs and c=1 units; retain simultaneity, worldline integration, four-momentum and unused evidence boundaries.

All lessons are open directly. Your saved experiments remain when you leave and return.

Try

For the original spacelike pair (Δt,Δx)=(3,5) and β=0.4, γ≈1.091089, Δt′≈1.091089 and Δx′≈4.146140. Both intervals are −16. At β=0.8, the transformed time is −5/3 and spatial difference 13/3, still giving −16.

These original virtual events and collision records are not an actual clock, accelerator, photon-source or practical experiment. No physical apparatus operation is assigned.

Understand

1. Define events, frames and conserved quantities

Frame S′ moves at velocity +β relative to S. Their difference coordinates obey Δt′=γ(Δt−βΔx), Δx′=γ(Δx−βΔt), with γ=1/sqrt(1−β²). The inverse changes the sign of β. Expanding the transformed squares cancels the cross terms and gives Δt′²−Δx′²=Δt²−Δx².

A positive interval is timelike, zero is null and negative is spacelike in this metric convention. Future-directed timelike or null pairs keep their time ordering under physical subluminal boosts. A spacelike pair can reverse order or become simultaneous because no causal signal connects the two events.

The visual overlays two coordinate descriptions for comparison; it does not connect them into a new physical worldline. A spacelike ratio Δx/Δt greater than one is not a measured superluminal particle. To claim a particle history, one must supply an actual continuous causal trajectory and appropriate event selection.

2. Reconstruct the original case

3. Predict and investigate

Which event pairs can reverse time ordering without a causal contradiction?

Transform all three supplied pairs, independently reconstruct the invariant and inverse transformation, and separate causal classification from an unsupported particle-velocity interpretation.

Transfer the event construction

Use the timelike pair (5,3) at β=0.6. Find transformed coordinates and the proper interval between these two events.

Retain the chosen events, frame convention and intermediate reasoning before opening public feedback.

Compare a worked response

The transformed pair is (4,0). The invariant is 16, so its timelike proper interval is 4 reference time units. This is the rest frame of a straight worldline joining these events, not proof that an arbitrary actual path between them has that same proper time.

Primary mechanism context. Checked 31 October 2026. Original derivations, records and diagrams; no physical apparatus operation or actual independent clock/particle measurement is claimed. Retain first reasoning and public-feedback exposure in the course evidence workspace when registered.

Apply

Why does reversing the order of a spacelike pair not reverse a causal signal?

Public practice checks a specific claim. It does not establish independent mastery.

Use the timelike pair (5,3) at β=0.6. Find transformed coordinates and the proper interval between these two events.

Continue

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.

Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.

Save a science backup or import one

Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.

A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.

Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.

Complete file sets and course backups

A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.

The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.

0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.

Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
