Infer expression mechanisms without equating abundance and synthesis
An RNA abundance measurement reflects molecules produced and molecules removed. More RNA can result from increased transcription, slower degradation or both. At steady state, production and loss balance while individual molecules continue to turn over; a stable amount does not imply that transcription or degradation has stopped.
Learning outcome: Compare production 20 with half-life 2 against production 40 with half-life 1. Retain steady amount and approach curves. Explain why an endpoint alone cannot distinguish these conditions and why RNA equality does not establish equal protein activity.
Starting recap
Trace strand direction, processing and molecular accounting; distinguish synthesis from abundance, local from shared regulation, and conditional assay evidence from identity or function claims.

Try
With production 20 RNA units/min and half-life 2 min, k≈0.34657 min⁻¹ and steady abundance is about 57.7078 units. Starting from zero, one half-life gives half that amount, about 28.8539. Doubling production and halving half-life preserves the same steady amount while changing turnover.

Can two cells have the same steady RNA amount but different production and loss fluxes?

Separate RNA production from RNA lifetime
Worked teaching model · synthetic values · First-order RNA loss with decay k=ln2/half-life. Starting RNA0 under constant production: M(t)=s/k(1−exp(−kt)). Translation and protein degradation are omitted; RNA abundance alone cannot identify protein output.
Reset keeps your prediction, captures and practice history.
Higher abundance can reflect faster synthesis, slower decay or both.
At steady state production equals loss while RNA molecules continue turning over. The same RNA amount can hide different fluxes. Protein abundance adds translation and protein turnover, so RNA is not an automatic protein or activity measurement.

Retain prior predictions, settings and quantities in the notebook. These are original supplied/calculated comparisons, not physical specimen observations or laboratory participation.
Higher abundance can reflect faster synthesis, slower decay or both.
At steady state production equals loss while RNA molecules continue turning over. The same RNA amount can hide different fluxes. Protein abundance adds translation and protein turnover, so RNA is not an automatic protein or activity measurement.
Captures preserve recipes and replay their calculated results. They are synthetic model evidence, not physical measurements.

Public practice checks a specific claim. It does not establish independent mastery.
One supplied system has production 10 units/min and half-life 4 min; another has production 20 and half-life 2. Compare steady amounts and fluxes.

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.
Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.
Save a science backup or import one
Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.
A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.
Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.
Complete file sets and course backups
A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.
The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.
0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.
Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
