SCIENCE · INVESTIGATE AND EXPLAIN

Interpret a curved retention record without inventing one mechanism

A retained or surviving fraction can change nonlinearly across a recorded series. Different subpopulations, shielding, recovery limitations or changing measurement can generate a tail. A curve alone therefore does not identify a unique resistance mechanism or demonstrate a universal process rate.

Learning outcome: Reconstruct both component contributions before taking a logarithm. Compare successive log changes and name a different measurement explanation that could also produce a curved record.

Starting recap

Bound control and susceptibility interpretations by measurement, heterogeneity, source frames and unused evidence; distinguish resistance, tolerance and nonrecovery without operational or clinical claims.

All lessons are open directly. Your saved experiments remain when you leave and return.

Try

With f=0.2, S(1)=0.8×0.1+0.2×0.8=0.24 and S(2)=0.008+0.128=0.136. Slow-component share at index 2 is 0.128/0.136=16/17≈0.941176. The first log reduction is about 0.619789; the next additional reduction is only about 0.246672.

Understand

Define the evidence boundary

A retained or surviving fraction can change nonlinearly across a recorded series. Different subpopulations, shielding, recovery limitations or changing measurement can generate a tail. A curve alone therefore does not identify a unique resistance mechanism or demonstrate a universal process rate.

Connect mechanism and measurement

The original series uses abstract index x, not time or dose. Fraction f belongs to a slow component with recorded multiplier 0.8 per index, while the rest has multiplier 0.1. Total retained fraction is S(x)=(1−f)0.1^x+f 0.8^x. These numbers are fictional descriptors of supplied records, not operating settings or organism-specific responses.

Log reduction at an index is−log 10 S(x). Additional reduction from one index to the next need not equal the first interval’s reduction because the remaining mixture changes. The slow component becomes a larger share of retained units even though its original population fraction is fixed.

An extrapolation using one early slope can therefore misrepresent later records. Yet this mixture is only one possible explanation: an independent measurement or source audit would be needed to distinguish heterogeneity from artifacts. No treatment choice, duration, concentration, culture or resistant-population generation is proposed.

Reconstruct the original record

With f=0.2, S(1)=0.8×0.1+0.2×0.8=0.24 and S(2)=0.008+0.128=0.136. Slow-component share at index 2 is 0.128/0.136=16/17≈0.941176. The first log reduction is about 0.619789; the next additional reduction is only about 0.246672.

Defend a changed case

Apply the mechanism to a changed boundary

Use f=0.1 and index 3. Find the retained fraction and slow-component share.

Retain the first response, units, uncertainty and any prior feedback exposure in the notebook before comparing this public explanation.

Compare a worked response

S(3)=0.9×0.001+0.1×0.512=0.0521. The slow share is 0.0512/0.0521=512/521≈0.982726. The index is not a recommended exposure period.

Retain bounded evidence

Preserve the original source, first response, units, uncertainty and feedback exposure in the Microbiology evidence workspace. All numerical records are fictional. No culture, control-process execution, chemical preparation, genetic manipulation, resistance generation, participant testing or clinical decision is requested. Actual practical and independent learner competence remain separate.

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.

Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.

Save a science backup or import one

Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.

A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.

Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.

Complete file sets and course backups

A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.

The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.

0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.

Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
