Defend a conditional site alternative without hiding constraints in a score

An environmental decision requires more than choosing the largest resource estimate or the smallest average hazard. The decision-maker must state which outcomes are constraints, which can be compared, which scenarios are credible and whose impacts remain unrepresented. A numerical ranking cannot silently decide those ethical and practical boundaries.

Learning outcome: Compare dry-only and both-scenario screening at each cap. Retain the rejected as well as selected alternatives and the exact decision rule. Identify a nonmonetized outcome and one uncertainty that the displayed cost ranking does not resolve.

Starting recap

Retain resource inventories, physical force and reaction boundaries, chronological alternatives and explicit decision constraints. Conditional teaching results do not certify actual site suitability.

All lessons are open directly. Your saved experiments remain when you leave and return.

Try

With cap 6 and both scenarios, A fails because wet load is 9; B and C pass with worst loads 6 and 4. B is least cost among feasible options at 12. Under dry-only screening A would pass at cost 8, illustrating why the scenario requirement matters.

Predict

Can an option that is cheapest and feasible in one scenario fail a requirement applied across two scenarios?

Screen alternatives under explicit environmental constraints

Worked teaching model · synthetic values · Original options: A cost 8, dry/wet loads 3/9; B cost 12, loads 4/6; C cost 15, loads 2/4. Screen against the user-selected teaching cap, then minimize stipulated cost among feasible options. These are invented constraints, not legal limits, monetized ecological values or an actual site recommendation.

Reset keeps your prediction, captures and practice history.

An explicit environmental constraint is not interchangeable with a hidden weighted score.

The model picks the cheapest option only after checking the selected scenarios and teaching cap. Wet-weather performance, uncertainty, protected values and who bears residual impacts need separate review. All inputs and the cap are invented, not a legal standard or site approval.

Understand

1. Define the evidence and process

2. Connect mechanism, geometry and boundary

The original alternatives have stipulated cost and dry/wet sediment loads: A costs 8 with loads 3/9; B costs 12 with loads 4/6; C costs 15 with loads 2/4. These fictional loads represent a bounded downstream consequence of alternative disturbance controls, not measured performance. The adjustable cap 4,6 or 8 is a teaching constraint, not an environmental regulation.

First screen each option under the selected dry, wet or both-scenario requirement. For both, compare the larger of its two loads with the cap. Only then choose the least stipulated cost among feasible options. Costs are already ordered here, but the reasoning must still document feasibility rather than automatically selecting the cheapest row.

A robust choice in two supplied scenarios is not robust against every unmodeled event. Uncertainty in sediment delivery, groundwater effects, biodiversity, maintenance and distribution of impacts may change the decision. Defend the conditional result, name a new observation that could reverse it and preserve a stop condition; do not present it as actual site approval or professional design.

3. Reconstruct the worked packet

With cap 6 and both scenarios, A fails because wet load is 9; B and C pass with worst loads 6 and 4. B is least cost among feasible options at 12. Under dry-only screening A would pass at cost 8, illustrating why the scenario requirement matters.

4. Predict and investigate

Predict first: Can an option that is cheapest and feasible in one scenario fail a requirement applied across two scenarios?

Compare dry-only and both-scenario screening at each cap. Retain the rejected as well as selected alternatives and the exact decision rule. Identify a nonmonetized outcome and one uncertainty that the displayed cost ranking does not resolve.

5. Test changed evidence

Apply the evidence to a changed case

With cap 4 and both scenarios, which option qualifies? What changes if only the dry scenario is screened?

Retain the evidence frame, calculations and assumptions before opening public feedback.

Compare a worked response

Only C qualifies across both, because worst loads are 9,6,4; its cost is 15. In dry-only all three loads 3,4,2 pass and A is cheapest at 8. The change follows the declared constraint, not a new geological measurement.

6. Retain a bounded decision

Preserve the first plan, source identity, original observations, units and competing interpretations. All numerical packets and diagrams in this category are invented teaching cases, not measured site conditions. Retain earlier actual USGS archives separately; do not merge unrelated sites into an invented actual history. Human review, unfamiliar transfer and any chosen supervised practical pathway remain separate. No mining, treatment, slope access or environmental clearance is authorized by these exercises.

Apply

Which reasoning justifies B at cap 6 across both scenarios?

Public practice checks a specific claim. It does not establish independent mastery.

With cap 4 and both scenarios, which option qualifies? What changes if only the dry scenario is screened?

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.

Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.

Save a science backup or import one

Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.

A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.

Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.

Complete file sets and course backups

A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.

The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.

0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.

Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
