Calculate a clock age without counting inherited daughter as decay
A radioactive clock compares surviving parent with daughter produced since a relevant closure event. For a one-to-one parent→stable-daughter model, radiogenic daughter D* equals measured daughter D minus independently known initial daughter D 0. Initial parent is then present parent P plus D* if the system stayed closed.
Learning outcome: Hold measured daughter fixed while changing the independent initial amount, then compare ages at different measured daughter amounts. Reconstruct initial parent and identify which unsupported assumption causes an older apparent result.
Starting recap
Distinguish present position, relative event order, numerical age and duration. Preserve calibrated ranges, clock assumptions and missing observations instead of forcing one history.

Try
With D=100 and D 0=20, radiogenic daughter is 80 and initial parent 180. Age is 100 log₂(1.8)≈84.8003 Myr; wrongly setting initial daughter to zero gives 100 Myr.

How will correcting for inherited daughter change the apparent clock age?

Subtract inherited daughter before computing a closed-system age
Worked teaching model · synthetic values · Fictional simple parent→stable daughter clock with present parent100 units, half-life100 Myr and one-to-one decay. Initial daughter is independently supplied and retained; no gain/loss, branching or intermediate chain. Age=100 log₂[1+(D−D0)/100]. Not a real isotope calibration.
Reset keeps your prediction, captures and practice history.
Inherited daughter and radiogenic daughter cannot be treated as interchangeable clock products.
Initial daughter must be constrained independently or through a suitable multi-sample method. Daughter concentration alone does not date a clastic deposit; inherited grains can record source-rock histories.

These are invented observation packets and calculations, not mapped field records or laboratory isotope measurements. Retain the source assumptions and first reasoning separately from public feedback.

Captures preserve recipes and replay their calculated results. They are synthetic model evidence, not physical measurements.

Public practice checks a specific claim. It does not establish independent mastery.
At measured daughter 75 and initial daughter 0, compute the age and reconstructed initial parent.

Completion requires a saved prediction, at least one capture and a reflection. Presence checks do not grade your reasoning.
Skipping retains experiments and awards no mastery.
Save a science backup or import one
Science work is stored locally in this browser, separately from mathematics and AI. It does not sync automatically. Use this science-only backup; this checkout's older all-subject export does not include science.
A legacy file is available only when the complete snapshot fits the 36 MB limit. For larger snapshots, prepare a complete file set below; never discard notebooks to make a smaller file.
Matching imported notebook drafts replace their current drafts. Omitted lessons and known first attempts remain. Export your current work first if you want to retain both drafts.
Complete file sets and course backups
A file set can hold more work than one science file. Keep its manifest and every part together. Each file is limited to 36 MB. This format needs this version of LearnAI or a compatible newer version; older versions can use only the legacy single-file backup above.
The set includes every saved science course and global continuation at this moment. Later edits need a new export. A conflicting tab exports its own visible work, which may differ from saved work in another tab.
0 file(s) selected. File order and filenames do not determine identity. Missing, changed or conflicting parts block the entire restore; no good part is applied by itself.
Science storage: loading. No account or remote computation is required.
