Why learn this? Use a reproducible comparison to make a bounded claim about defend and revise a result, while keeping development practice separate from independent review.

Back to the experiment

A shorter explanation, with the original worked examples available below. Both explain the same experiment and its limits.

Same learning goal in both modes: Record a critique, a bounded claim revision and a counterexample test without rewriting earlier evidence.

Start with a concrete question

A reviewer says your gain comes only from curved tasks. What result would address that criticism?

What to inspect

Compare the line task against both curved tasks. Record the alternative explanation, revise the scope of the claim and state which new task would challenge it.

Review asks whether the evidence supports the claim and what else could explain it. A critic might observe that a quadratic feature helps on curved tasks but is unnecessary on a line. That observation does not make the entire study worthless. It suggests a narrower claim about task families and a follow-up comparison with different curvature, noise or resource limits.

Keep the conclusion bounded

Choose self-review or externally reviewed according to what actually occurred. The latter is explicitly unverified learner reporting; entering a name or checking a box does not authenticate independent review. The software supplies four separate objective transfer questions, each with a first attempt and bounded retries. Passing them checks the stated arithmetic and design distinctions, not independent research proficiency. A defensible outcome may be positive, negative or inconclusive; its value comes from a precise claim, retained evidence and a next experiment that could prove it wrong.

Mechanism and worked comparison

Review asks whether the evidence supports the claim and what else could explain it. A critic might observe that a quadratic feature helps on curved tasks but is unnecessary on a line. That observation does not make the entire study worthless. It suggests a narrower claim about task families and a follow-up comparison with different curvature, noise or resource limits.

The project separates critique from revision. Preserve the original frozen results and write what changed in the interpretation. A revised hypothesis evaluated on the same final rows is exposed practice. A new generalization test needs newly reserved data or tasks and a new frozen protocol. Do not erase an unfavorable task or first assessment attempt to make the revision appear stronger.
