CUMULATIVE PORTFOLIO

A researched position essay

Investigate a bounded educational or campus question and write a qualified position essay. You may complete an offline practice portfolio using the explicitly fictional seminar packet, or an independent research portfolio using real sources you inspect. Label which route you chose; packet work is not evidence of independent source discovery. Preserve your source trail, earlier thesis, draft and revision memo. No public posting is required.

Portfolio workspace

Write an 800–1,100-word essay using at least three documents from the packet or three inspected sources. Include a synthesis paragraph, a serious counterargument, citations with locators and a 200-word revision memo. For the packet route, label the evidence fictional throughout.

Build it in stages

  1. Collect the six lesson artifacts and first transfer responses. State your research question and whether you chose packet practice or independent research.
  2. Build a source matrix and source notes. For real sources, record creator, title, date when available and a URL or page/section locator; never invent missing bibliographic details.
  3. Draft a thesis and essay organized around reasons or issues rather than a source-by-source list. Preserve the baseline.
  4. Reverse-outline the draft, inspect the strongest objection and use peer feedback or labeled self-review. Revise the argument before editing sentences.
  5. Submit the essay, references, source trail, revision memo and independent transfer task. Record the route in the rubric review; a presence checklist cannot verify source accuracy or research independence.

Companion artifact or manuscript continuation

Use this space for the adaptation, second medium, exhibit captions or a continuation of a longer manuscript requested by your brief. Label the material clearly. It is saved and exported with the portfolio; this field has its own 16,000-character allowance. Keep an earlier companion version below before revising it.

Portfolio sources and references

Keep new project sources here; your lesson source cards also remain in the downloadable portfolio. Record a source once where it belongs. Use the notes for a reference list, synthesis matrix and research-route declaration. A filled card does not verify a source or count as independent research.

Your source dossier

Keep source wording, your paraphrase and your reasoning in separate fields. Locators are stored as plain text; the site does not fetch or verify them. Label fictional teaching sources as fictional.

Review criteria

Use these descriptions to seek feedback or conduct a labeled self-review. The site records your account; it cannot verify a reviewer’s identity or certify quality.

Question and thesis

Still developing: The topic is broad, the answer predetermined or the thesis exceeds the evidence.

Convincing evidence: A focused question leads to a contestable, qualified answer whose limits affect the argument.

Synthesis and source fidelity

Still developing: Sources are listed, distorted or treated as interchangeable votes.

Convincing evidence: Sources have distinct roles, are accurately attributed and are connected through explicit relationships and limitations.

Reasoning and organization

Still developing: Paragraphs contain unsupported leaps or objections that do not affect the position.

Convincing evidence: Paragraph functions form a sequence of reasons; warrants and serious objections are examined.

Revision and research route

Still developing: Changes are cosmetic or packet practice is presented as independent research.

Convincing evidence: The memo documents substantive changes and remaining uncertainty; the evidence trail supports the declared research route.

Unfamiliar transfer task

A college is considering replacing one lecture each week with peer workshops. The available evidence is a list of attendance totals, two enthusiastic voluntary comments and a schedule showing limited room availability. Develop a focused inquiry question, a qualified thesis and a two-paragraph plan that synthesizes these materials. Identify a tempting inference they cannot support and describe an observation that could change your recommendation.

Apply the same rubric to this new case. There is no automatic correctness verdict.

Assemble for review

  • ○ Still needed — An artifact and saved transfer response for each of the 6 investigations
  • ○ Still needed — At least 3 explained annotations drawn from 1 investigations
  • ○ Still needed — At least 3 source cards with creator, locator, quotation, paraphrase, relevance and limitation across lessons and portfolio
  • ○ Still needed — At least 2 lesson revisions with different baseline/current drafts and commentary
  • ○ Still needed — A portfolio draft and preserved comparison draft
  • ○ Still needed — A revision commentary and rubric-based review
  • ○ Still needed — A saved response to the unfamiliar project passage

These checks establish that evidence is present. They do not assess its accuracy, originality or quality. Skipping alone does not satisfy evidence requirements; saved artifacts and transfer responses are checked independently.
