College composition

Develop a qualified position through inquiry, source synthesis, purposeful organization and substantive revision, with an inspectable research trail.

Preparation: You should be ready to distinguish a source’s words from your interpretation and revise a paragraph. The writing and rhetoric studios offer practice; they are recommendations, not entry locks. The local packet supports an offline practice essay. Independent research requires finding and inspecting additional real sources.

Begin anywhere, skip familiar work or change task depth. Skipping preserves work and does not count as completion.

0/6 investigations completed. Portfolio: not submitted. These records do not certify proficiency.

Lesson sequence

Each lesson opens on its own page. Choose a lesson to read, write and save your work.

  1. Let a question earn its thesis

Turn a broad topic into a contestable question and a provisional thesis whose scope matches available evidence.

  2. Make sources speak to the same question

Synthesize sources around a shared issue while preserving differences in what each source can establish.

  3. Build a sequence of reasons

Organize an essay by argumentative purpose and make relationships between paragraphs explicit.

  4. Explain what evidence licenses you to say

Build a paragraph that distinguishes observation, inference and value judgment, and tests the warrant connecting them.

  5. Change the genre without changing the facts

Adapt a supported claim to different academic genres while preserving its evidence, uncertainty and source trail.

  6. Revise the argument before polishing the sentences

Use a reverse outline and reader feedback to change a draft’s reasoning, structure or scope, then document the consequences.

A researched position essay

Investigate a bounded educational or campus question and write a qualified position essay. You may complete an offline practice portfolio using the explicitly fictional seminar packet, or an independent research portfolio using real sources you inspect. Label which route you chose; packet work is not evidence of independent source discovery. Preserve your source trail, earlier thesis, draft and revision memo. No public posting is required.

Course practice consists of the six investigations and the portfolio. The project rubric makes the quality expectations explicit; human review remains separate.
